Self-esteem by definition is the general opinion a person has about himself or herself. Self-esteem is simple terms is what the little voice in your head says about you. Does it say you are stupid, ugly, not good enough or does it say you are beautiful, smart and worthy. Low self-esteem is the internal belief that you are not good enough.
Self-esteem is shaped by the experiences you have in life. For most people experiences from childhood, romantic relationships, achievement, and body image shape how they feel about themselves. Self-esteem is developed over a period of time as our brains translate the experiences we have to mean something good or bad about ourselves.
Self-esteem is changed by learning to be compassionate and kind to oneself. It starts with recognize when you are allowing negative thoughts about yourself to persist in your head and then replacing those negative thoughts with more uplifting positive thoughts.
