At Neely Counseling Center, we realize that athletes face several challenges to stay on top of their mental health and physical ability. That’s why we partnered with Love Volleyball and AIRROSTI to develop a program to support your athlete’s approach to Performance, Recovery, AND Optimization in ONE Program.

How Does The PROP Clinic Work?
During the Clinic, we assist athletes in understanding how to warm up and recover from a workout. Athletes also participate in high-level team play to encourage Team-Building and Improve Motivation. We expose athletes to wellness exercises to help them work on the mental aspect of their game which includes Attentional Focus, Visualization, and Grounding
(Mindfulness Exercise.)
Performance Anxiety
Helping an athlete cope with the intense pressure that comes from the competition is tough. NCC can help athletes find ways to reduce performance anxiety and combat burnout.
Couch-Time Check-In
At NCC, our mission is to break the stigma associated with mental health. Why suffer in silence? An athlete’s mental health affects how they perform in the game. Address the small concerns before it becomes a problem. We provide counseling and coaching in a safe confidential environment.
Challenge Yourself To Find A Positive
It can sometimes be easier to fixate a mistake you made rather than remember your successes or all the plays you contributed to helping your team. When negative or anxious thoughts come, acknowledge the thought, then challenge yourself to recognize your strengths or successes. Your mistakes do not define you.
Get In Touch With Your Thoughts
The thoughts and worries you bring into the gym or the game have a way of impacting your feelings and your ability to perform It can be beneficial to take some time to reflect on the thoughts and fears that have been weighing on you. Holding on to these thoughts and fears may serve as an obstacle to playing at your peak capacity.
Visualize Your Success
Just as holding on to negatives thoughts can hold you back, picturing your success can propel you forward. Once you’ve worked to free yourself of your negative thoughts, allow yourself to visualize your success. This can be as simple as visualizing yourself having a good game. Setting your intention to be successful enables your mind to empower your body to reach its goals.
Grounding
When thoughts and worries consume you, it can be challenging to focus on the present moment or the next play. You may feel more in your head than in the moment. Grounding is a way to help you orient you back into the game and serves to let the anxious thoughts fade away. You can use breathing in a 4-7-8 pattern to re-center yourself. If you use a phrase or mantra to motivate yourself, repeat the phrase while taking three deep breathes.
