ADHD Testing in San Antonio
Wondering if ADHD may be affecting your life or your child’s?
ADHD is more than difficulty paying attention. It can affect focus, motivation, organization, emotional regulation, memory, and the ability to start and complete tasks. Many people spend years wondering why certain things seem harder before finally seeking answers.
At Neely Counseling Center, we provide comprehensive ADHD testing for children, teens, and adults. We use evidence-based assessments, including the Brown Executive Functioning Scale, along with clinical interviews and behavioral observations to better understand how ADHD may be impacting daily life.
Is ADHD Testing Right for Me or My Child?
You or your child may benefit from testing if:
- Difficulty focusing or paying attention
- Trouble staying organized
- Frequently procrastinating or struggling to complete tasks
- Forgetfulness or losing things
- Emotional ups and downs
- Challenges at school, work, or home
- Feeling like you’ve always had to work harder than others to stay on track
Many people tell us:
“I’ve wondered for years if I have ADHD.”
Or as a parent:
“I know something is going on, but I don’t know if it’s ADHD, anxiety, or just normal kid behavior.”
Testing can provide clarity.
But ADHD testing is not simply about receiving a “yes” or “no” answer.
Our goal is to understand how your brain works—which executive functioning skills are strengths, which areas may need support, and what strategies are most likely to help you succeed.
Understanding Executive Functioning
ADHD affects executive functioning—the brain’s management system.
At Neely Counseling Center, we use the Brown Executive Functioning Scale, a clinically validated assessment that evaluates six important areas:
- Activation – Getting started on tasks
- Focus – Sustaining attention and avoiding distractions
- Effort – Maintaining motivation and energy
- Emotion – Managing frustration and emotions
- Memory – Holding and recalling information
- Action – Organizing and completing tasks
Understanding which areas are most affected helps us develop practical recommendations and treatment plans tailored to each individual.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my insurance cover ADHD testing?
Coverage varies depending on your insurance plan and benefits.
Many individuals choose not to use insurance for ADHD testing. Some prefer to pay privately because they want information and recommendations without having a formal diagnosis submitted to insurance. Others may have concerns related to military service, career considerations, or personal privacy.
Our team can discuss your options and help you determine what makes the most sense for your situation.
What if the testing shows I don't have ADHD?
That’s okay too.
Sometimes testing identifies ADHD. Other times, it reveals anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, or another factor affecting concentration and daily functioning.
Either way, you’ll leave with a better understanding of yourself and a plan for moving forward.
Will I receive a report?
Yes. Clients receive a thorough review of their results and a written report.
What assessment do you use?
We use the Brown Executive Functioning Scale along with clinical interviews and other evidence-based tools when appropriate. The Brown Scale evaluates six areas of executive functioning: Activation, Focus, Effort, Emotion, Memory, and Action. The assessment occurs over two sections and takes approximately 2hrs.
What happens after testing?
After reviewing your results, your counselor will discuss recommendations and next steps. This may include counseling, executive functioning strategies, school or workplace accommodations, medication referrals, or additional resources to help you or your child succeed.
