- Becoming withdrawn or isolating themselves
- Going through a divorce or family change
- Having behavioral concerns
- Struggling with self-esteem or confidence
How Counseling Works

Parent Consultation
We begin by learning about your child, your concerns, and your goals. We’ll answer questions and make sure your family is matched with the right counselor.

Assessment & Goal Setting
Your child or teen meets with their counselor and begins building a relationship. Together, we identify areas for growth and develop clear goals so everyone understands what we’re working toward.

Growth & Ongoing Support
Counseling may include learning coping skills, processing emotions, improving communication, and developing healthier ways to handle challenges. Our goal is to help children and teens build skills that last long after counseling ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will parents be involved?
Yes. Parents are an important part of the counseling process. We want you to understand how your child is progressing and ways you can support them at home. At the same time, we also want children and teens to feel they have a safe place to talk openly, so there are appropriate limits to what is shared.
How often are sessions?
Most clients start with weekly 50-minute sessions. We often recommend planning for about 6–12 sessions initially, though this varies based on your child’s needs.
Does insurance cover counseling?
Yes. We accept many insurance plans and can help verify your benefits before your first appointment.
What if my teenager doesn't want to come?
It’s common for teens to feel hesitant at first. Therapy works best when clients are willing participants, but we’ve found that many teens become more comfortable after a few sessions. Our counselors use age-appropriate strategies to help teens feel safe, respected, and engaged.
What happens during a session?
Sessions vary based on age and goals. Teens often spend time talking about daily life, relationships, stress, and emotions. Younger children may use games, activities, or creative approaches to help them express themselves. While we believe counseling should feel comfortable and engaging, we are also intentional about helping children and teens develop skills and make meaningful progress.
How will I know if counseling is helping?
You may notice improvements in mood, communication, behavior, confidence, or emotional regulation. Your counselor will regularly discuss progress and adjust goals as needed.
